Virtual sample 3D
What advantages can it give us?
A few days ago in an interview with Nicole Callender I was watching the EFI Optitex 3D Virtual Sample . Although my impression before seeing the program was skeptical, it changed once the interview was over. And it was because I understand immediately that the 3D virtual sample could bring significant improvements in the development process of the model.
However, before sharing with you the improvements that I saw, I explain briefly how 3d software works.
1 PATTERN
The pattern development is make by system or imported from other. And is prepared for 3D simulation.
2 FABRIC
The fabric used for make virtual sample is selected. The program has a library in which each fabric has been parameterized to simulate its behaviour.
3 DUMMY
The dummy is chosen. The system also allows have a library of dummies adjusted to our measurements, sizes, morphologies and looks. In addition, on each one you can have saved a collection of poses or movements with which we want to work.
4 VIRTUAL SAMPLE
The virtual representation of the sample by combining the previous pattern + fabric + dummy data is make.
On this representation you can:
Check:
- Tension zones of the garment.
- Ease
- Behaviour to the movement
Make style variations:
- Modify the garment
- Change the color or print
- Replace the trimmings or applications
Do a realistic rendering of the sample
Let us see now that improvements can bring the incorporation of the use of the virtual sample 3D model development. First, let us make a comparison required by one system or other on the stages of development.
STYLE DEVELOPMENT WITH PHYSICAL SAMPLE
1. Sending to supplier the technical chart with the design of the style.
2. Upon receiving it, the supplier begins the search for the materials necessary for make the sample. At the same time, the development of the pattern begins.
3. Once he has the materials and the pattern the sample is make.
4. The 1st physical sample is sent by Courier.
5. To receive the Courier the technician checks and measuring the garment. And organize a fitting session with the model, designer and buyer.
6. In the fitting session the fit of the style is checked, if hang is correct or the balance of the garment, if is conforms to the design, etc.
7. Once fact fitting sent comments to the supplier.
8. The supplier receives the comments, rectifies the patterns.
9. Make the second physical sample.
10. Send it again.
11. Upon receiving, the second sample is check, and measured. A new fitting session is convene.
12. The second fitting session is done.
13. And if everything is correct the Style is approved.
STYLE DEVELOPMENT WITH VIRTUAL SAMPLE 3D
1. Sending to supplier the technical chart with the design of the style.
2. Upon receiving it, the supplier begins the search for the materials necessary for make the sample. At the same time, the development of the pattern begins, makes the virtual sample and send it by mail or sharing on the cloud.
3. The virtual sample is revised by fashion technician and Designer without the need to convene a fitting session.
4. Each one send the comments.
5. The supplier receives the comments, rectifies the patterns.
6. First physical sample is make with the materials required for the style
7. The simple is send by Courier.
8. Upon receiving, the second sample is check, and measured. Make the comments.
9. And if everything is correct the Style is approved.
In this way, we can appreciate a simplification of the required stages. At same time to savings in ready-made samples and fitting sessions. In addition, in a greater flexibility in the response between supplier and brand. However, the saving of time that the use of the 3D virtual sample supposes is better visualized if we analyse the time spent in each stage of development. We will see that this advantage is extended.
WORK FLOW OF DEVELOPING STYLE WITH PHYSICAL SAMPLE
WORK FLOW OF DEVELOPING STYLE WITH VIRTUAL SAMPLE 3D
Analysed in this way gives us a result of a 35% time saving in development time
The incorporation of the use of the 3D virtual sample involves integrating the digital process throughout the development cycle of the style. The ability to work with a digital asset throughout the process can bring us significant economic benefits, time and communication skills. A reduction of physical samples around 30%. Shortening development time by 35%. And a 60% les employed in the fitting sessions. An improvement in efficiency also implies an improvement in communication between Supplier and Brand. Facilitating a greater connection between the teams. Therefore, we can conclude that the incorporation of the 3D virtual sample is a challenge that is worth facing.
However, we cannot ignore the difficulties that this change must bring with it. Being the first of them the effort must made by the different agents involved in the collection. Efforts to learn to work in this new environment and incorporate the new technology into your work routine. It follows that the Brand accepts how the 3D virtual sample validates and that the Supplier incorporates the use of digital systems in its equipment.
The technology is already available and only the different agents depend on its incorporation into the development process. Perhaps the difference between those who are able to do so and those who will not be one of the differences between those who survive and those who do not.
Let’s remember
